
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 20th, 2000) is an American actress and a singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. London is a torch singer well-known for her soft, melodic vocals and languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955-1969. Her debut album "Cry me a river" which she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to receiving a music-related recognition, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year career in acting began in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in a variety of westerns. She starred along with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. Her final studio album was released in the year 1969. She continued to be a hit in the role of the female main character of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she was a co-star with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
