Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos which include commentary on the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. She also serves as the director of operations. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who are excluded. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a university student Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by the internet campaign. This attack was not enough to deter her. In fact, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critique. She has won numerous awards in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the portrayal of women in pop culture stories.
